Lab & imaging orders
Ordering tests, logging results as they arrive, clinical sign-off, and patient uploads from the portal.
Ordering
Order lab tests or imaging from the patient's chart or from within a visit. Quick picks cover the common panels; anything can be added by name. If your clinic works with partner labs, Angel can suggest where to send the patient, and can WhatsApp the patient a slip of what was ordered.
The order lifecycle
An order moves through ordered → collected → resulted → reviewed, with canceled as the exit for orders that will never come back.
- Ordered — the doctor asked for it.
- Collected — the sample was taken (or the patient went for the scan).
- Resulted — results are in: values, a report file, or both.
- Reviewed — a practitioner looked at the results and signed off.
Logging results — everyone's job
Results arrive when they arrive, and whoever is at the desk logs them: update the order, attach the report file, note the values. This is deliberately open to the whole team — the desk shouldn't wait for a doctor to file paperwork.
Recording a result from the results queue
You don't have to go find the chart. Results to review (the dashboard tile, and More → Results to review on the phone) lists the orders still waiting under Awaiting results, and each one carries a Record result button. It opens the same window sign-off uses, so you can type the values, attach the lab's report, or both — and saving moves the order to resulted, which is what puts it in front of a doctor. Saving needs at least a value or a file: an order can't be marked as resulted with nothing recorded on it.
Attach file is available in that window whether the result is still awaited or already back — the lab's PDF often turns up hours after the values were phoned through, and it belongs on the same order rather than filed loose on the chart. Attaching a file to an order still awaiting its result marks the order as resulted too; attaching one to a result that is already signed off leaves the sign-off alone.
Sign-off — the doctor's job
Marking an order reviewed is a clinical act: it stamps the reviewing practitioner's name and time on the order. Only a practitioner can do it — and it's usually the moment to open the report, then accept it and move on to the next result awaiting review. The doctor who ordered the test is notified when its result is posted.
The review dialog also has a Cancel order action for a wrong or duplicate order whose result already came back — dismissing it is a status change, not a deletion, so the result stays on the patient's chart.
Patient uploads
With the patient portal on, patients can upload existing results before their visit. Uploads land in a verification queue — a staff member opens the file first, then accepts it onto the chart or rejects it. Nothing a patient uploads reaches the chart unseen.
Orders that go stale
An order nobody has touched in about a week surfaces on the dashboard so it doesn't silently die. What to do with it is your call, not Angel's: chase the result, or cancel the order if the patient never went. Canceling asks for confirmation.
Still stuck?
If you already use Angel, ask from inside it — Help & support carries your clinic, screen and app version with the message, so nobody has to describe their setup. Otherwise write to us and a human will answer.
